Grotton speed camera finally activated
A long awaited and much needed digital speed camera on Oldham Road in Grotton has finally been activated after years of campaigning by Councillor Alicia Marland.
Councillor Marland began her campaign in 2019 after her daughter was nearly knocked over by a speeding driver whilst using the pedestrian crossing. That was the start of numerous frequent communications with TfGM challenging why the existing camera was not maintained or replaced.
Local Liberal Democrat Councillor Alicia Marland said: “It was finally confirmed by TfGM in October 2021 that a replacement camera had been approved for this location but it has taken many more months to finally be installed. It is unacceptable that this was such a lengthy and protracted process and TfGM need to ensure any new devices are rolled out far quicker and with less red tape”.
She added: “I am already receiving reports from residents that there has been a noticeable reduction in the speeds of drivers through Grotton and with my Ward colleagues, we will continue to seek funding for more such devices or traffic enforcement measures in the area. These include the entire stretch of Oldham Road, Cooper Street, Coverhill Road, Under Lane and Lane Head Road”.
