Oldham Liberal Democrat Leader councillor Howard Sykes MBE has welcomed news that the government is has agreed to discuss a youth mobility scheme with the European Union.  Youth mobility schemes aim to support young people who want to spend some time travelling, studying or working in other countries.

Councillor Sykes said, “We should never let political decisions get in the way of opportunities for young people.  We have lots of youth mobility schemes in place with other none-EU countries and the Liberal Democrats have been putting pressure on the Labour Government to get a deal in place with Europe.  I’m glad they have listened.

“These schemes offer young people the life changing opportunity to travel, study or work abroad.  We should be trying to extend that opportunity to as many young people, from as many different backgrounds as possible.  This is very welcome news.”
